My Journey to Become a Young Professional Working in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector
Srey Leang YA
Hi, my name is Ya Srey Leang and I am a fourth-year student at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia. I think you might be wondering why I chose to study engineering rather than choosing other major?
Yes of course, I want to show that I can learn and do this kind of work as a man, so if there is a girl who wants to learn this skill, please follow your dream. On the other hand, when I decided to study in Phnom Penh, what I encountered was adapting to new people and new environments. Especially when I was in my second year, my family encountered many problems that made me want to drop out of school, but my parents encouraged and supported me to continue my studies because they wanted me to have a good job in the future. He even said that it was not easy to go to a prestigious school; however, when I was in my third year, I got a scholarship offered by WaterAid Cambodia.
When I graduated from school, one of my goals was to help people in the country have access to clean water, especially women and girls. To achieve this, I had to work with the government or other organizations working in this field.
